Word Study

I love to study words in Scripture. Many call me a word-study geek, I prefer word-study queen, but I can’t seem to get anyone to acknowledge me as such. So whether I’m a geek or a queen, words are powerful and knowing their deep-rooted meaning will bring the Scriptures ALIVE!

I’d like to share one of my word-studies from a favorite Scripture of mine in the powerful book of James.

Why am I sharing a word-study? Because I want you to see how I do a word-study on Scripture and then maybe you’d like to give it a shot. I believe and know this truth, when you learn the deep-rooted meaning of a Scripture, it will do just that – take root!

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. – James 5:16 KJV

Effectual = Having adequate power to produce the effect, accomplish, journey, labor

Fervent = Eager, inflamed by desire, earnest, excited, passionate, affectionate

Prayer = To solemnly address God as the Supreme Being, consisting of an expression of His glorious perfections, to ask, a petition

Righteous = One who is pure in heart, a servant of God

Avail = To profit

NOW, TAKE ALL THE DEFINITIONS AND PUT THEM INTO A PARAGRAPH, LIKE THIS:

Bonnie’s Summation of the deep-rooted meaning of James 5:16 – As servants of God we have been given adequate power to produce the effect. Therefore we earnestly, inflamed by desire and with passionate affection solemnly address God as the Supreme Being, and out of a pure heart we ask for, with excitement, our petition knowing that we will profit from this journey of labor and much will be accomplished according to His Glorious Perfections!
